He said that he would take her to Majorca, where she would have to fend for herself. Thanking him profusely, she jumped into his small fishing boat. They set off onto the Balearic towards Majorca, and Violet thought that she had done extremely well, although she hadn’t thought about what she would do when she actually got to Majorca, but figured that she would find someone else to help when she got there; at least this meant that she was getting away from GerardWhen they were at sea, unfortunately the weather changed, and it started to get very rough; the waves were rising and the little boat was being tossed to and fro. Violet was terrified, and even more so when the fisherman admitted that they were in trouble; a ship was nearby, and the fisherman began frantically waving his arms for assistance, and urged Violet to do the same. Fortunately the crew on board could see that they were in trouble and came to their assistance, throwing a rope ladder over the side and encouraging them to climb up it to safety. Violet let her modesty fly away; she couldn’t give a fig that her skirts were blowing up over her head; all she wanted to do was get out of that tiny boat and to safety.When they were on board, the crew alerted the captain, who was British, to come and speak with her.
