Lieutenant-commander Edward Courtenay, DSC, RN, takes command of his ‘L’class destroyerLeistonat Portsmouth and while his father James, now in command of a Squadron of light cruisers, patrols the western coast of Britain, he and the new Flotilla he is attached to spend time ‘working up’ together before being despatched to the Mediterranean to take part in the Gallipoli Campaign. James and his Squadron soon follow and they are both in the thick of the action as they play their part in trying to bring the campaign to a satisfactory conclusion….
